“It’s no work. There’s no work involved. Because It’s all a joy.
Cause you know you’re reaching your goal.”
- Steve Vai
Steve Vai is known as a Guitar VirtuosoA graduate from Berklee School of Music, he’s a 3-time Grammy Award-winning rock guitarist, composer and producer. He started his career working with Frank Zappa, and went on to tour the world, with bands such as Alcatrazz and Whitesnake. He also has his own record label, Favored Nations, and has sold over 15 million albums worldwide.
So when it comes to success, he definitely knows a thing or two. In fact, he shared his wisdom with aspiring Guitarists in his Private Sessions Event through a contest hosted by Guitar Center (watch video below).
From determining what you want to do, to crystallizing a vision of yourself as musician, to proactively practicing the guitar, Steve share’s some GREAT advice on how to be successful.
And as you hear his advice, you can clearly see why he’s had such a successful career as a musician, and is ultimately known as a Guitar Virtuoso.
“The level of achievement that we have at anything, is a reflection, of how well, we were able to focus on it. Because the only thing that’s holding you back, is the way you’re thinking.”
– Steve Vai
To be honest, I didn’t even know who Steve Vai was until a former colleague, and reader of this blog, Chris Spinney, sent me this video of Steve.
There are so many people we can learn from.
People from all backgrounds, areas and industries.
From musicians, to micro sculptors, to coaches, to athletes, to teachers, to authors, and even students.
We can always learn something from each other’s experiences.
And today, we hear from the Guitar Virtuoso himself: Steve Vai. Enjoy.
“Whenever you get discouraged, go to the big picture. GO back to that place of excitement. That’s how you get through it. You go the big picture. You go to the chief aim. Because it’s so crystalized in your head, that when you know, that you feel that ‘I can’t do this’.. You go back to that picture and you can see yourself doing it.”
- Steve Vai
